Bird Island Lodge

Our Opinion... Our opinion... an ornithologist’s delight. A perfect island to escape to, be at one with nature and truly live a castaway island experience. No television, no telephones, just plain old fashioned hospitality in paradise

Prices From: £120.00 per person per night FB

This small coral island of only 170 acres is the most northerly of the Seychelles islands. Likened to a jewel floating in the azure blue ocean, Bird Island is acknowledged as a small drop of natural paradise.

The 24 bungalows are spacious and in keeping with the island’s philosophy of using natural materials and non-sophistication. Each bungalow is ventilated by a ceiling fan, louvered windows offering a very relaxed and harmonious atmosphere. Extra sleeping space for an additional person is available in the lounge area of each bungalow.

Within the main pavilion, the restaurant provides sumptuous buffet-style Creole lunches and European-style dinners, while the informal lounge area encourages you to relax totally and reflect on another day in paradise.

Swimming and snorkelling off Bird Island is magical and there is also the opportunity to experience a glass-bottomed boat trip three times a week.

Totally surrounded by the softest of white powdery sands, the island is home to at least twenty different species of birds, including millions of sooty terns nesting between May and October.

Being an active member of the Green Globe, an international eco-tourism organisation, Bird Island has been declared a private nature reserve, with regular population counts, data collections and ringing of the birds and turtles and of course strict vegetation management.

The island also conducts a very successful turtle-tagging programme which was started in 1995, monitoring the growing breeding population of the hawksbill and green turtles.

The world’s largest land tortoise also resides on Bird Island. Esmeralda is acclaimed to be over two hundred years old. Nature tours are organised three times a week by qualified members of staff who are on hand every day to answer questions and give advice on all aspects of the island’s conservation programme.
